Why are audio files important here?

Filed under: New technology, Blog notes — Administrator @ 8:17 pm

Well, they’re another way to get our message out. I can see encouraging some folks to talk about their issue when it would be really hard to get them to write it down.

As an Audio Activism article points out, Internet voice mail systems are a cheap voice to digital conversion technology. The NCWU toll free number is such a system. We could, then, have folks just make a quick phone call to post to the blog. Way cool.

See AudioActivism.org for more information on this.

Testing an audio file

Here’s a link to an audio file -
Testing MP3 uploads

In case you’re wondering, I recorded that with an Olympus DS-2. That’s got a USB interface to upload the WMA file it creates, and comes with a simple editing package. I converted the .wma to an MP3 with Audio Converter/Audio grabber, www.e-soft.co.uk free download (so it cuts off after 75% of the file). Will probably pay the $24.95 to get the full package - if anyone has other recommendations, let me know.

Permalinks

Filed under: Blog notes — nancy @ 10:10 pm

Turning on permalinks changes the relatively short but cryptic links for the articles to longer ones that can have a semantic content (e.g. date). Note that there are two samples listed and one (the one without any numeric content) didn’t seem to work — links for the archives no longer were valid.
