Okay, let’s see if I can post a photo

Filed under: Blog notes — nancy @ 8:41 am

This is about half-baked. When uploading an image, it asks if you want to create a thumbnail, and if you say yes, it does that. However, there’s nothing in the GUI that tells you how to access the thumbnail. If, however, you know something about how to look under the covers, it’s not too hard to set the image to the thumbnail and include a link to the full sized picture.

WebCalendar

Filed under: Calendar solutions — nancy @ 2:36 pm

www.myden.org supports WebCalendar — but it doesn’t appear to allow for much context on the event — or a clickable link from the event details.

But I may be wrong. I think this is the address of the application itself:

www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php

They also list their competitors at

Any likely candidates, Manon?

Bulletin Board Compilation

Filed under: New technology — lisa @ 7:20 pm

I remember vaguely, about discussion bulletin boards (vs blogs?), but wanted to compile a list just as a matter of course.

vBulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com/)
vBulletin is a powerful, scalable and fully customizable forums package for your web site. It has been written using the Web’s quickest-growing scripting language; PHP, and is complimented with a highly efficient and ultra fast back-end database engine built using MySQL.

vBulletin is the ideal community solution for all medium-to-large sites.

Leased Option: $85
Licensed Option: $160

******
phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/)
phpBB is a high powered, fully scalable, and highly customizable Open Source bulletin board package. phpBB has a user-friendly interface, simple and straightforward administration panel, and helpful FAQ. Based on the powerful PHP server language and your choice of MySQL, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL or Access/ODBC database servers, phpBB is the ideal free community solution for all web sites.

Cost: Free (open source)

********
These are the two that I am most familiar with and didn’t know if the bulletin board system was still in contention.

Cross-platform testing

Filed under: Blog notes — nancy @ 5:41 pm

This is an entry for folks to use to see if they can post comments from a range of browsers — Macintosh in particular. In your comment, please give the operating system version (at least Windows or Mac) and the browser version (for Windows, anyway, usually found on the Help > About menu item).

Thanks!

Testing e-mail interface

I’m trying to e-mail pictures, but it doesn’t seem to be working . Let’s
start with styled text.

That should be underlined and red
